Alex Holderness Photography

"Wildlife as Canon Sees It"...that was the phrase that caught my attention. And, of course, there was the amazing image that accompanied the tagline; I think it was a Gorilla in the mountains. Canon has been running this ad series in National Geographic since I can remember reading. It totally sucked me in. I was so inspired that I told my parents when I was about six years old that, "this is what I want to be, a picture taker for National Geographic". Thus began my love affair with the lens and I insisted on carrying the family camera on every vacation.

Photography fascinates me and it's not just the gear. It an art form that provides every person with the opportunity to fully experience the world around them, even places and things they only see in their dreams. Photography is spectacular journeys to far away places, beauty, crisis, culture, smiles, tears and adrenaline pumping action. Photography coveys an entire range of human emotion in a single instant in time.

I am what you call a semi-professional photographer; I do it because I love it and occasionally I get paid for it. Primarily, I shoot because it helps me express my impressions of and visions for the world I see. My career has taken new life since becoming a student of the New York Institute of Photography and the results have been most satisfying. The professional aspects of my career continue to grow every day with engagements ranging from corporate headshots and executive portraits to live events and recently even travel photography. I hope you will take some time to look through this web site at the collections of images. I hope they capture you and touch you.
